Why ALL CAPS feels like shouting
In email and chat, capital letters increase visual intensity because every letter has the same height and weight. Readers often interpret that as anger or urgency even when the sender only had Caps Lock on. For customer support and team chat, prefer sentence case unless emphasis is intentional and brief.
Legitimate uses of uppercase
Acronyms (API, HTML, NASA), warning labels (STOP, DANGER), and short UI badges (NEW, SALE) are standard uppercase contexts. Regulatory text and diagram annotations also use caps for visibility at a distance.
Accessibility and readability
Long paragraphs in all caps are harder to read for many people, including users with dyslexia, because word shapes become uniform. WCAG-oriented teams limit uppercase to short labels and use CSS `text-transform` rather than typing in caps when possible.
Fixing accidental caps
Pasted legal text, PDF exports, and old database dumps often arrive in uppercase. Run content through a sentence case or lowercase converter, then restore proper nouns and acronyms. For headlines, title case may be appropriate after cleanup.
