Alfa through Zulu, including digits
Each Latin letter maps to the ICAO/NATO word (Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, … Zulu). Digits become typical radio readings such as “Niner” where the alphabet specifies them. The output is a spoken-word spelling, not a pronunciation dictionary for English words.
Call signs, ticket IDs, and voice readback
Use this when reading a confirmation code over a noisy call, briefing a tail number, or teaching the alphabet. Pig Latin and IPA tools solve different jobs. Morse is for on/off signalling, not voice spelling.
Spelling variants and non-Latin scripts
“Alfa” is the NATO spelling (not “Alpha”) to avoid /f/ vs /p/ confusion. Letters outside A–Z have no NATO word and pass through. Keep the paste to the identifier you will actually read aloud. Conversion is local.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as the military phonetic alphabet?
NATO/ICAO is the widely taught radio alphabet. Some older armed-force lists differ; this page follows the modern Alfa–Zulu set.
How are numbers spoken?
Digits are expanded to their radio words where defined (for example 9 → Niner) so they are distinct on a bad line.
Can I decode NATO words back to letters?
Paste Alfa Bravo… and the reverse mapping reconstructs the letters when tokens match the alphabet.
